Library Organizing

Well it took over a week, but the library is up and running in our classroom!
After learning how to put away books properly students helped label and organize the book tubs. Waiting to open the library ended up creating a huge amount of interest in the books that they could see but not read! I loved hearing "Ms. H, is the library going to be open YET?  I really want to read a book!"

New Tennis Courts!

On Friday we got to participate in the opening of the new tennis courts at CES! The students were the first on the courts and had a great time practicing their tennis skills.  They of course also enjoyed knowing that the news cameras were watching as well!

Afraid of failure? Keep moving forward!

Today we had a great conversation about failure.  We tied it into math specifically, but basically we discussed how it is okay to fail and that's how great ideas and inventions are created.  When you already know everything and don't challenge yourself you aren't actually growing or learning.  Not knowing the answer shouldn't be viewed as failure, but rather an opportunity for learning.  I'm hoping this talk will encourage all of us to take risks and to explore things that we might not have been brave enough to tackle before.  Because it's okay to fail!

Here's the short video we watched as our introduction into the topic!

It's almost here!

In only 3 days a brand new class will be starting the school year in my room. I'm getting excited thinking of all the fun projects we'll do in our room as well as our gradewide partnership with the Crozet Public Library. There's still a lot of loose ends to tie up before the open house on Monday night, but I can't wait to see those eager faces walking through my door!
